Vomiting in pregnancy can manifest as an outcome of pregnancy or as an outcome of an underlying medical or surgical disorders. Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, commonly known as morning sickness affects approximately 75-85 % of pregnant women. It is generally mild, self-limited condition, commonly encountered between 4th and 7th week of pregnancy, diminishing greatly in intensity by 14-16 weeks of pregnancy. Hyperemesis gravidarum is a syndrome defined as severe nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy associated with weight loss of more than 5% during early pregnancy.
