INSECT BITES
Description
- Possibility of Insect bite should be considered in all cases of pruritic dermatoses. Presence of wheals or papules, linear or irregular grouping, asymmetrical distribution, localisation to areas accessible to insects is characteristic.
- Chronic recurrent eruption of irritable urticated papules, occurring in patients with an acquired sensitivity to insect bites is called papular urticaria(Lichen urticatus). Lesions tend to have a characteristic distribution and configuration. Mosquitoes, bed bugs and fleas are the important causes of popular urticaria. A number of dipterous flies and mites also produce it.
Etiology
Types
- Primary lesions are wheals, papules or wheals often with a central haemorrhagic punctum
- Lesions are markedly pruritic
- The distribution of lesions depends on the biting habits of the insect and clothing habits of the host, commonly on exposed parts of the body
- Secondary infections are common
