Description

• Ovarian insufficiency despite adequate gonadotrophin stimulation is termed as Primary ovarian insufficiency or premature ovarian follicle 
• When ovarian failure occurs before the age of 40, it is termed Premature Ovarian Failure. Women who experience ovarian failure prior to the age of 30 should have a genetic evaluation to ensure a normal karyotype
• These women should also have an autoimmune workup because of possible autoimmune causes of ovarian failure

• Amenorrhoea
• Hypomenorrhoea
• Vaginal dryness due to hypoestrogenism
• Night sweats, hot flashes, dyspareunia, and irritability
• Increased gonadotropins
• Infertility

Investigation

• Serum FSH >40mIU/ml
• Serum E2 level< 20 pg/ml
• AMH (Antimullerian Hormone)
• Ovarian biopsy

Treatments

• HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
• In case of Autoimmune disorders, corticosteroids can be used
• IVF with donor oocyte
• Gonadectomy in the presence of Y chromosome to avoid malignancy
