Description
- An inflammation of the pharyngeal tonsils. The inflammation regularly lengthens to the adenoid and the lingual tonsils. It frequently arises in combination with inflammation of the pharynx; for this reason, the term tonsillitis and pharyngitis are often used interchangeably or in combination ( tonsilopharyngitis)

- Acute catarrhal or superficial tonsillitis - Tonsillitis is a part of generalized pharyngitis and is mostly seen in viral infections
- Acute follicular tonsillitis -The infection spreads into the crypts which become filled with purulent material, presenting at the openings of crypts as yellowish spots
