Clinical significance
- Creatine Kinase MB is an enzyme found primarily in heart muscles. CK-MB is one of the three forms of enzyme creatine kinase (CK). The three forms include CK MM ( found in skeletal muscles and heart), CK MB(found mostly in heart, small amount in skeletal muscles) CK BB( found in brain and smooth muscles )
- CK MB test is used to determine whether pain is due to heart damage or is more likely to be related to skeletal muscle injury.
When to get tested
- When a person has chest pain and to determine if the pain is due to heart attack.
- To detect a second heart attack that occurs shortly after the first.
