ANOGENITAL WARTS

Description

  • Epidermal manifestation attributed to the epidermotropic human papillomavirus(HPV)
  • Genital warts are fleshy growths that develop around the genitals or anus
  • Also known as Condyloma acuminate or venereal warts

Etiology

  • Papillary lesions caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
  • Premalignant and malignant cervical cancers in women also increase the chances of genital wart
  • Even if there are no warts, HPV might still be active in the genital area and can spread to others

Types

  • Vaginal discharge
  • Pruritus
  • Difficulty in defecation
  • Anal pain
  • Typically, it grows in clusters along a narrow stalk giving it a cauliflower appearance. Rarely does it become malignant
  • Location – Vulvar, Cervix, anal region, urethra

Investigation

  • Visual inspection with bright light
  • Pap smear for females
  • Biopsy

  • HPV vaccines
  • Cryotherapy
  • Electrocautery
  • Laser therapy
  • Excision
