Frequently Asked Questions

What people ask before they install, and what they ask after.

General

What is Bhishak?

A clinical compendium on Ayurveda for practitioners and students: detailed references on medicines, diseases, lab investigations, procedures, and patent formulations; the classical texts; daily clinical pearls; a prescription generator; and private on-device patient records.

Who is it for?

Practising Ayurvedic doctors, BAMS/MD students, and academics. It is a professional reference — not a self-medication app.

Is it free?

Much of it, yes: browsing all categories, universal search, the reference books (classical texts), daily clinical pearls, the studies feed, the prescription demo, and Patient Records. Full detail monographs require a subscription. New users get a trial.

Which languages does it support?

The app interface is available in English, Hindi, Arabic, and Spanish. Prescriptions can be generated in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi/Devanagari, as well as English.

Can I use the app as a patient?

Bhishak is designed for professionals and students. It is not a substitute for consulting a doctor. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking medical treatment because of something you have read on or accessed through this app.

Search & reference

How do I find something quickly?

Use the search bar on the home screen — it searches medicines, diseases, investigations, procedures, and patent medicines all at once.

Why do some entries ask me to subscribe?

Category lists and search are free; the full detail monographs are part of the premium subscription.

How do I save an entry for later?

Open it and tap the bookmark icon. Your bookmarks live under Bookmarks (sign-in required so they stay with your account).

Is new content added?

Yes — the database grows continuously on our servers. You get new content without updating the app.

Prescriptions

How do I set up my letterhead?

Open Prescription Setup (you'll be prompted the first time you write a prescription). Enter your name, qualifications, registration number, and clinic details — you'll see a live preview as you type. You only do this once; every prescription then carries your letterhead.

Why is the patient's phone number required?

The phone number (with the name) is how a visit is filed under the right patient in Patient Records, so a returning patient's history stacks under one record instead of creating duplicates.

Can I write prescriptions in my language?

Yes — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi are supported. Type with any keyboard for your language; the generated PDF renders the script correctly, including the patient name and your letterhead.

How do medicine suggestions work?

When you enter a diagnosis, the app suggests matching medicines from the database — including featured formulations — so you can add them with a tap. You can always search the full database with autocomplete instead.

Can I try it before writing a real prescription?

Yes — run the prescription demo from the home screen. It types out a full sample case by itself, explains each step, and ends on the sample patient's record. It's free and doesn't affect your quota.

Can I reprint or share an old prescription?

Yes — open Patient Records, pick the patient, open the visit, and reprint or share the PDF from there.

Patient Records

Where is my patient data stored?

Only on your phone. Records are encrypted on the device and are never uploaded to our servers. Nobody but you can see them — not even us.

Will my records sync to my other phone / tablet?

No. Because records never leave the device, they exist only on the phone where you saved them. This is deliberate: it keeps your patients' data fully under your control.

What happens if I uninstall the app or lose my phone?

Device-only data is removed with the app and cannot be recovered by us. Before changing phones, export/share any prescriptions you need to keep.

Why don't I see a patient I know I saved?

Records are matched by name + phone number. If either was entered differently (a spelling change or a different number), a new record is created. Check for a duplicate entry.

Can I delete a patient or a single visit?

Yes — swipe to delete a visit in the patient's timeline, or delete the whole record from the patient page.

Is the demo patient real?

No — the demo creates one sample patient so you can explore the feature. You can delete it anytime.

Account & subscription

Do I need an account?

You can browse as a guest. Signing in (Google or Apple) is needed for bookmarks, prescriptions (your letterhead is saved to your profile), and subscribing.

How do I subscribe?

Open the subscription screen from the menu (or any "subscribe" prompt) and pay securely. Access is activated as soon as the payment is verified — usually a few seconds.

My payment was deducted but I don't have access.

Verification normally completes within seconds ("Verifying payment…"). If access doesn't appear: check your internet connection, then close and reopen the app. If it persists, contact support with your payment reference — a failed verification is automatically refunded by the payment provider's standard timeline.

How do I delete my account?

From the profile/account screen. Account deletion removes your server-side data; your on-device patient records remain on your phone until you delete them or the app.

Troubleshooting

A prescription in Malayalam/Tamil/etc. looks wrong or empty.

Update to the latest app version — Indic prescription rendering shipped in 5.1.1. If it persists on the latest version, contact support with the script and a sample.

I can't take a screenshot on some screens.

Screens showing patient data and licensed book content are screenshot-protected by design.

How do I see the app tour again?

Tap the "take a tour" notice on the home screen.

Notifications aren't arriving.

Check the app's notification permission in system settings, and that notifications are enabled inside the app's settings.

Still stuck?

Use the support / contact option inside the app (About section). We answer during Indian business hours.
