UNEXPLAINED INFERTILITY
Description
- Infertility is idiopathic in the sense that its cause remains unknown even after an infertility work-up, usually including semen analysis in men and assessment of ovulation and fallopian tubes in the woman
- Unexplained infertility is estimated to occur in about 15% of patients
Etiology
- Unknown
- Ovum is not released at the optimum time of fertilization
- Ovum may not enter the fallopian tube
- Sperm may not be able to reach the Ovum
- Fertilization may fail to occur
- Transport of zygote may be disturbed
- Implantation failure
- Maternal immune tolerance
Types
- No detectable cause for infertility can be identified
- Normal male and female factors with infertility

- All investigations as per protocol to rule out any pathology
Assess Ovulatory functions
- Body temperature
- Hormone tests
- Endometrial biopsy
Hysterosalpingography: Assess the patency of tubes and uterus
Pap smear
