Clinical significance
- The main role of Vit D is to help regulate blood levels of calcium, phosphorous and Magnesium. It is vital for the growth and health of bones. Two forms of Vit D can be measured in the blood, 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 1,25- dihyrdoxyvitamin D
- 25 OHD3 is the major form found in blood and is a precursor for other vitamin D metabolites. It is the best indicator for vitamin D status in one’s body.
- The test allows precise diagnosis and better management of clinical or suspected cases of Rickets or osteomalacia and helps to diagnose vitamin D intoxication, as a part of a differential diagnosis of hypocalcaemia.
